Cubans in Miami-Dade County Want USA To Stop Establishing Relations With Cuba Until Castro Government Takes Steps
Towards Becoming Free Society; Most Say Death of Fidel Will Not Cause Nation to Accelerate Transition to Democracy:

SurveyUSA interviewed 600 Cubans from Miami-Dade County FL 11/29/16 through 12/11/16 on behalf of Inspire America Foundation. 56% of the interviews were conducted in English, 44% were conducted in Spanish. Of the adults interviewed, 80% were registered to vote in the state of Florida. Timing of the research was designed to coincide with the 2-year anniversary of President Barack Obama's announcement that the United States would begin to establish diplomatic and commercial relations with the nation of Cuba. All interviews were completed after the death of Fidel Castro on 11/25/16.

Among the survey's key findings:

* By 11:1, Cubans say it is unfair for the Castro Government to keep 92% of the wages paid by American companies to the workers they employ in Cuba.

* 3 out of 4 Cubans say that American companies with workers in Cuba should stop doing business in Cuba as long as this condition continues to exist.

* Given the death of Fidel Castro, Cubans by 6:1 say that America should stop efforts to open trade with Cuba until the Raul Castro government takes steps toward making Cuba a free society.

* 1 in 3 Cubans say the death of Fidel Castro will make it more likely that Cuba will embrace democracy. But more than half of Cubans say that Fidel's death will make no difference in a possible Cuba transition to democracy.

* Miami-Dade Cubans voted 2:1 for Trump on 11/08/16.

5Since the United States began to establish relations with Cuba 2 years ago, without requiring Cuba to take steps towards becoming a free society, the number of arrests by the Cuban government has quadrupled. Knowing this, should the United States continue to establish relations with the Cuban Government as is without seeking regime change? Or should the United States stop and ask the Cuban government to take steps towards becoming a free society before the establishment of relations can continue?

10Some Cuban nationals use the Cuban Adjustment Act to get a Green Card, then apply for U.S. government assistance, but then return to Cuba and receive public assistance from the US government. Some see this as an abuse of the law's intent. Should the Cuban Adjustment Act allow Cubans to return to Cuba? Or should the Cuban Adjustment Act be changed to prevent Cubans who use the CAA to obtain refugee and residency, from returning to Cuba (except for exceptional circumstances):

5Since the United States began to establish relations with Cuba 2 years ago, without requiring Cuba to take steps towards becoming a free society, the number of arrests by the Cuban government has quadrupled. Knowing this, should the United States continue to establish relations with the Cuban Government as is without seeking regime change? Or should the United States stop and ask the Cuban government to take steps towards becoming a free society before the establishment of relations can continue?

Or should the United States insist that the Cuban government take some steps towards freedom before restoring commencing and diplomatic relations?

7A number of prominent Cubans, including Dr. Oscar E. Biscet, Jorge Luis Perez Ant?nez, Berta Soler, and Dr. Antonio Rodiles, are opposed to the United States establishing commercial and diplomatic relations with the Cuban Government until the Cuban government takes steps towards making Cuba a free society. Knowing this, should the United States continue to establish relations with the Cuban Government without first seeking regime change? Or should the United States stop and insist that the Cuban government begins to take steps towards making Cuba a free society?

9The Cuban Adjustment Act first became law as a way for Cuban refugees to establish United States residency. Based on what you know, is the Cuban Adjustment Act today being used the way it was first intended? Or is the Cuban Adjustment Act being abused?

10Some Cuban nationals use the Cuban Adjustment Act to get a Green Card, then apply for U.S. government assistance, but then return to Cuba and receive public assistance from the US government. Some see this as an abuse of the law's intent. Should the Cuban Adjustment Act allow Cubans to return to Cuba? Or should the Cuban Adjustment Act be changed to prevent Cubans who use the CAA to obtain refugee and residency, from returning to Cuba (except for exceptional circumstances):
