11 Days Until New Mexico Votes are Counted, Momentum on Republicans' Side ... But Will it be Enough to Overtake Democratic Advantages?

SurveyUSA's latest exclusive polling for KOB-TV in Albuquerque shows tightening in the contests for Governor, Attorney General, and Secretary of State, as three Republicans gain ground to narrow their gaps against their Democratic opponents.

In the race for Governor, incumbent Democrat Michelle Lujan Grisham takes 46% of the vote today, Republican Mark Ronchetti 39%. Libertarian Karen Bedonie takes 5%; 9% are undecided. Compared to identical SurveyUSA research conducted 3 weeks ago, Lujan Grisham is down 7 points and Ronchetti is up 2. Among men, Lujan Grisham had led by 6 points in September, by a nominal single point in October, and now trails Ronchetti by 3. Among women, Lujan Grisham had led by 18 in September, by 29 points earlier this month, and leads by 16 today. Among white voters, Ronchetti now leads by 10 points, up from 6 points three weeks ago and 8 points in September. Latino voters prefer Lujan Grisham by a 20-point margin today, half of where the contest stood three weeks ago. Poll on poll, the race is unchanged in Bernalillo County, tightening in Dona Ana, and has flipped in the rest of New Mexico, where Lujan Grisham had led by 10 points, then by 8, and today trails by 3.

Looking at some changes on the issues important to voters this election cycle, Ronchetti had led by 12 points among those voters most focused on inflation; now, he leads by 29. Among immigration-focused voters, Ronchetti slightly widens his lead from 59 points to 63 points. Voters who say crime and public safety is their top issue had backed Lujan Grisham by 12, and have now flipped to Ronchetti, who leads by 35 points among this slice of the electorate.

In the race for the open Attorney General seat, Democrat Raul Torrez takes 47% of the vote today, down from 50% in the previous poll; Republican Jeremy Gay is at 37%, up from 33%. 17% are undecided in this down-ticket race. A notable portion of the 7-point narrowing in this contest comes from white voters, where voters had previously see-sawed between narrow edges for each candidate but now favor the Republican by a 15-point margin, 50% to 35%. 86% of Lujan Grisham voters stick with the Democratic party and vote for Raul Torrez for AG; 79% of Ronchetti voters stick with the Republican party and vote for Jeremy Gay.

Incumbent Democratic Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver's lead against Republican Audrey Trujillo has also narrowed to single digits; today, Toulouse Oliver is at 43% (down 4 points); Trujillo is at 36% (up 4 points.) 3% vote for Libertarian Mayna Myers; 17% are undecided. Among men, Toulouse Oliver had led by 10 points in September, by a nominal single point earlier this month; today, she trails Trujillo by a nominal 2 points. Among women, Toulouse Oliver led by 12 points in September, by 29 points earlier this month, and today is back to a 15-point lead.

47% of voters who say they generally vote for Republicans say an endorsement by Donald Trump makes them more likely to vote for a candidate; 46% say it makes no difference; just 6% say it makes them less likely to vote for a candidate. 38% of those who generally vote for Democrats say that an endorsement by Joe Biden makes them more likely to vote for a candidate; 48% say it makes no difference; the same number, 6%, say it makes them less likely to vote for a candidate.
