| One Week Out, Jump Ball For Atlanta Mayor, Council President; Moore Leads Dickens Among Early Voters, But 7 in 10 Have Yet To Cast a Ballot:
7 days until votes are counted in the runoff election for Atlanta Mayor, incumbent City Council President Felicia Moore and Councilmember Andre Dickens are in a fierce fight, both candidates with a path to victory, according to SurveyUSA's latest exclusive polling for 11Alive News. 14% of voters are undecided. Moore has an ever-so-slight advantage among all likely voters, 46% to 40%. Among the 28% of the electorate which tells SurveyUSA they have already voted, Moore leads Dickens by 13 points. Among the 59% who say they are certain to vote on or before November 30, Moore's lead is just 5 points. Another 13% say they will probably vote, and among those voters, Dickens has the nominal lead, 35% to 30%. If Dickens can motivate enough "probable" voters to become "certain" voters, he may emerge as Atlanta's 61st mayor. If not, Moore's advantage in banked votes and among those more certain to vote may make the difference. Among both men and white voters, Moore leads by 11 points; among both women and Black voters, the contest is tied. Younger voters back Moore by 2:1; seniors, typically the most reliable voters, back Dickens 5:4. Dickens is retaining more of his November 2 voters than Moore. 94% of those who tell SurveyUSA they voted for Dickens in the November 2 election vote for him again in the November 30 runoff, compared with 85% of Moore's voters who stick with her. Those who voted for Kasim Reed earlier in the month prefer Dickens to Moore by 19 points. 71% of voters say the amount of crime in the city will be a major factor in how they vote, but those voters show no clear consensus on who would better handle the issue: 46% of crime voters vote for Moore, 41% for Dickens. In the election for City Council President, first-time candidate Doug Shipman and 5-term Councilmember Natalyn Archibong are separated by 2 nominal points, with 30% of likely voters undecided. Shipman leads 2:1 among white voters; Archibong leads 2:1 among Black voters. Archibong has an 8-point advantage among those who have already voted, but Shipman is nominally ahead among certain voters and leads by 8 points among those who say they will probably vote. Those who vote for Dickens for mayor prefer Archibong by an 8-point margin; those who vote for Moore for mayor prefer Shipman by 11. Full results follow... |
| About the Poll / Filtering: SurveyUSA interviewed 750 adults from the city of Atlanta 11/17/21 through 11/22/21. Of the adults, 655 were identified as being registered to vote; of the registered voters, 561 were determined by SurveyUSA to be likely to vote in the November 30 runoff or to have already cast their ballots. This research was conducted using blended sample, mixed mode. Respondents reachable on a home telephone (38% of likely voters) were interviewed on their home telephone in the recorded voice of a professional announcer, using telephone sample of registered voters purchased from Aristotle in Washington DC. Respondents unreachable on a landline telephone (62% of likely voters) were shown the survey questions on the display of their smartphone, laptop or tablet, using online adult panelists chosen randomly by Lucid Holdings LLC of New Orleans. The combined pool of survey respondents was weighted to US Census targets for gender, age, race, and home ownership. |
